Do you keep sending out CVs and having interviews while still getting no replies? Five tips for successful job-hunting!

A graduate from last year who still don’t have a job, is posting on forums that he has been leaving home early and coming back late each day, so his parents will think he has a job and won’t worry about him. If that sounds like it could be you, or if you do have a job, but want to change it, then the following tips could be just what you need.

1. DOs and DON'Ts during a video interview

In a recent survey, over 30% of the 500 respondents, who were all responsible for talent acquisition, said they had rejected interviewees because of the backgrounds in their interview videos. Your interview starts right at the moment your call is connected. So here are 6 DOs and DON'Ts for video interviews and some interview mistakes that are costing jobseekers opportunities.

Interview360 is an AI-powered interview training tool that helps users to optimise their performance for in-person and video interviews. Users will receive instant AI feedback of their interview performance based on pace, body language, time management, eye contact and facial expressions. This will be followed by model answers to simulated interview questions. Practice makes perfect. So let's go!

2. 'How much should window cleaners get paid for cleaning all the windows in Hong Kong?' How would you respond to such weird question?

First impressions are key in any interview. Listen to comments from top management on how to make a good impression. After that, you will be asked various kinds of difficult questions… but how can you answer an unexpected question?

Your employer-to-be may not have an answer. He just wants to see how you handle yourself under pressure, or in an unexpected situation. Do you fumble and crumble, brazen it out, or come back with something clever and equally unexpected. Look at the response from top management to curveball questions. Try learning from them and start unleashing some clever curveball answers in your interviews.

3. Big NO for copying job descriptions on your CV!

Your CV is your first step in finding a job. Tens or even hundreds of CVs are sent to HR departments every day. If you want to be an outstanding candidate, don’t just copy the job descriptions. Add some ‘action verbs’ to sharpen your story. And don’t forget to keep your CV fresh to catch the attention of your employer-to-be.

4. Manage your social media platform well

Apart from sending out CVs, searching for jobs on LinkedIn is already a well-worn path. But how can you stand out to recruiters on LinkedIn? They say that about 90% of employers will check their applicants’ social media profiles. If you haven’t received any interview invitations yet, you might want to review your CV, cover letter and LinkedIn to soften the impact of employment gap. Your personal values and ethics can also be reflected on your social media, so make your social media networking counts toward improving your image.

5. The in-demand and other job offers

The demand for data scientists and engineers has risen exponentially in line with the recovery of the economy and advances in technology. The government has also offered to support more than 2,000 jobs in the tourism industry to relief their pressures.

If you’d like to have more examples and suggestions for succeeding in the business field, we’ve also got some ideas for you.
